Can a buyer approve the order because the sample has a three-pin UK plug?
No. The shape is only the first visual check. The buyer needs evidence that the exact plug route is permitted, the plug type has the required approval basis, the BS 1362 fuse is correctly rated for the appliance manufacturer's instructions, the cord and terminations suit the product current and construction, and production will remain identical to the approved sample.
Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 regulation 35 addresses safe connection for domestic electrical equipment intended for the UK. The 1994 Regulations require the fuse link in a standard plug for an in-scope appliance to conform to BS 1362 and to be rated in accordance with the appliance manufacturer's instructions, with a stated fallback where instructions are absent. A March 2026 UK product-safety report records a China-origin power adaptor rejected at the border and destroyed because the plug face did not meet BS 1363 dimensional requirements and could not make a secure socket connection. The official report also identified soldering, labelling, marking and instruction concerns. Appearance did not protect the shipment.
